Synopsis of 2013 team: The 2012 team in the regular season scored 466 points, averaged 46.6 ppg, and had approximately 4000 yards total offense.

Kicker John Shelton finished his career as the all-time leading kicker at Winnfield. Defensively, we allowed 1033 total yards, allowed 391 points, and

scored 10 defensive TD’s. We had a total of 7 players that are going to the next level to play, 4 on defense, 2 on offense, and our kicker, John Shelton.

Winnfield’s 2013 team will be the most inexperienced team we have fielded in a few years. For the first time in manyyears, we are going to have to

play some players both ways. Offensively, we have only two starters returning. While inexperienced on offense, we have some capable people who

will need to step up to make us productive. If we mature, our passing game should be better than it has been in a few years while some of our

young players and a few defensive players will have to step up in the running game. Defensively, we have players who are solid with experience,

returning 5 starters. We have to have some players step up for us at both defensive end and outside linebacker. Another challenge for us is that we

will be going into a district in which the only opponent we have played recently is Jonesboro-Hodge. Also, our non-district schedule will challenging.

Our coaching staff does a tremendous job and has remained stable; something I feel is of great importance. The 2013 edition of the Winnfield Senior

High School Tiger football team looks to carry on the tradition of excellence. We have a chance to be a competitive football team if both our young

and inexperienced players rise to the challenge and fill the roles at vacated positions.
